Each student was randomly assigned three starting points for their assignment directly related to italic type design or the font creation process in general. Given the limited time frame of 3,5 days, this method strikes an ideal balance between providing structure and allowing creative freedom. It ensures students can produce unique works without getting lost in the development process.
Italic Act received a research grant in 2024 from Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie in the Netherlands. In April 2024, we held our first workshop at Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, followed by a second at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem.
